Irish Rowing Championships 2012 Inniscarra Lake Co Cork


Novice men’s 8+ Irish Rowing Champions 2012.

The 2012 queen’s novice men have won the men’s novice 8 championships.
This has been the number one goal for the season and it just rewords for all the atlatls and coaches who have put in the time and effort this season.  It is a win not only for the 9 men in the boat but for the who Queens novice system that are run for this season 2011/2012.

Men’s novice 8+ winners Cox, Rupert Crowley , bow, Andrew Wood  2, Joshua Holmes  3, Alex Horkan 4, Oisin Griffin 5,Peter Mano 6, Tiernan Oliver  7, Conor Bell, 8,Jan Vasiliadis  Coaches  Stephen Lockwood and Marc Butler supported by  Paddy Doherty, Declan Gollogly, Jason Greenwood and Mark Jameson.

Times  Eight – Novice: 1 Queen’s University, Belfast 6:04.55, 2 UCD 6:10.94, 3 Trinity 6:16.26

On the final day of the championships the novice men again tasted victory with a clear water win in the novice 4+.

Training continues towards the champs is cork next Friday. With the main event the novice men’s 8+ at 3.25pm.   The fours are on Sunday morning.

Training has being moving well booth the land, the lagan and on the fresh water.  Training was slightly disrupted due to the heavy rain over recent weeks but the team have being enjoying training alongside Methodist College Boat Club J18 crew and the QUB men’s senior VIII who also head to the champs next weekend the  13 July.

Marlow Regatta at Dorney Lake, Eton

On  June 16 the Novice men travelled to Marlow regatta on the London Olympic 2012 rowing course for what was intended to be a day of hard back to back racing. Due to the weather conditions and high wind speeds many event were cancelled. The novice men only completed one race with was a running start.  But the men returned to Ireland completed a number of training pieces to make up the lack of racing in England.

Selection week  
The novice men took to the water in the Belfast Docks to take advantage of the straight 1500m that was be used for seat racing.  The lads also enjoyed an 2km erg test this week.

The novice men train with the senior 8  in preparation for the upcoming Boat Race (Link) and  summer regatta season.
