BUCS Rowing
Championships 2012
The novice men had an enjoyable and successful weekend at
the British
Universities and Colleges Sports Rowing Championships 2012 in Nottingham
England. unnecessarily and
unfortunately Saturdays racing for Beginner 4+ crews was canalled due to the
fear of bad weather witch the end did
not materialize. All other racing on
Saturday raced as planned. On the Sunday
in the beginner 8+ the lads has a good start completing the time trial to advance to the semi finals. Drawn in land 3 for the semi final , the lads
rowed well and booked a place in the final by coming second to Nottingham, who they
would finish ahead of in the final.
The final its self was close a run affair. The lads did not have their greatest start with
the eventual winners Southampton Solent University having a quick start to lead
the crews away from the start. Queens
lay in fourth for much of the race over lapping with all the crews in front about
3/4 down on Solent, ½ down on Durham and just a bow ball behind Nottingham. Coming thorough the last 500m Queens lifted
there pase to go with the leaders and to overtake Nottingham. Bristol made a
late charge for the line but the young queens rowers held there nerve and took their
place on the podium in 3ed behind Solent who held Durham to win by 0.1 of a second.
Congratulations to Southampton Solent University on their
impressive win, And to all the queen's finalist most notably
the Woman’s beginner 8 who took home gold.
