Although Queens’s regatta 2012 will be remembered for all the rung reasons, it must not be forgotten that  it was a successful day for the queen’s novice on the water.   The men novice’s   took victory in the 4+ and the 8+ as well as competing well in the senior 4+ and 8+ events with they were also entered.  In the smaller boats (1x and 2x) victories were hard to come by voluble experience was had by all that took to the water.

April 2012

Irish University Championships/ Skibbereen eFlow Go Row Grand League regatta
The men’s novice squad had and enjoyable weekend in cook for the  Irish University Championships and the Skibbereen eFlow Go Row Grand League regatta.  A lot of new racing skills were learned and the lad go a chance to put into practice the skill that have learnt on the lagan since last October.
The week end started well with a win in the Men’s beginner novice 8 event. In the Main novice 8 the lads race well until 1000m but were pushed out of the race in the second half. The crews finish 3ed and 5th.  The 4 narrowly missed out on a win in the last 400m of the race.  Sunday was a better day  and in the novice 8 the same opponent crews that took to the water. Queens novice used the valuable race experience gained on the Saturday to up there game and unlike the uni champs were in the race through the last 500m. They were level with trinity until the last 300m when DUC pulled away to take a ½ length win. Queens also improved the results in the 4’s by this time wining the 4+ event 1 length clear of trinity with QUB B coming in  3ed.
The weekend was a good start to the regatta season for the QUB men with win in the inter. Senior and novice events.
